We’ll go on
English poem by: Christine CoatesTheme: Hope
We’ll go on like this –
this long road, twisted and gnarled
like a vineyard stokkie –
breaching, breaking off this way
and that.
They say most people have three loves
in their lives. First the physical, the
hormone’s choice. Then the hero, golden
discus thrower, pop star,
Hollywood star.
Later poet, priest, philosopher.
You’ve always been the golfer, rugger
bug, one who brings tea, who
keeps on walking besides me, carrying
the bags, bringing up the rear.
